Who we are
Happy Place Labs LLC (“we,” “us,” “our”) operates the Palace web application at palace.fyi and the Palace Clipper browser extension for Chrome and Safari (collectively, the “Service”). This policy describes how we collect, use, and protect your information.
Information we collect
Account information
When you create an account we collect your email address and name. We use magic-link authentication — no passwords are ever stored.
Palace content
Everything you add to your palace: room names and taglines, keepsakes (albums, books, movies, games, links, and images you choose), notes you write on keepsakes, and your palace title and biography.
Uploaded images
Images you upload to your palace are stored in our cloud storage and associated with your account.
AI-generated room art
When you generate or regenerate room artwork, we send metadata about your keepsakes (titles, artists, and similar descriptive information — not your notes or personal details) to OpenAI to produce an AI-generated scene description and artwork. The resulting images are stored and linked to your account.
Usage data
We track the number of AI room art regenerations your account performs each month in order to enforce usage limits.
We also use Mixpanel, a product analytics service, to understand how the Service is used so we can improve it. Mixpanel records page views and product interaction events (for example, adding a keepsake, generating room art, or publishing a palace). This data is de-identified: events are associated with a random device identifier and, once you sign in, an internal account identifier — never your email address or name. We do not use this data for advertising and we do not sell it. Analytics data is processed on Mixpanel’s European Union infrastructure.
Cookies and local storage
We use cookies and browser local storage for essential purposes: keeping you signed in, and letting Mixpanel assign the random device identifier described above so repeat visits can be counted without identifying you. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Browser extension data
The Palace Clipper extension accesses the following data exclusively while you have the popup open and are actively adding a keepsake:
- The URL and title of the active browser tab (to suggest keepsake content)
- Images displayed on the current page (when you choose to add an image keepsake)
The extension does not track your browsing history, read data from other tabs, or operate in the background. Tab data is used only to pre-fill keepsake information and is not stored beyond that interaction.
How we use your information
- To create and maintain your account and palace
- To generate AI room artwork (keepsake metadata is sent to OpenAI for this purpose)
- To search third-party media databases on your behalf when you add a keepsake (iTunes, Google Books, The Movie Database, IGDB, Spotify, Open Library, Odesli) — we send only the search query, not your personal information
- To enforce AI art generation usage limits
- To send you magic-link sign-in emails
- To operate, maintain, and improve the Service
Information we share
We do not sell your personal information. We share limited data only with the service providers required to operate the Service:
- Supabase — database and file storage; stores your palace data and uploaded images
- OpenAI — receives keepsake metadata to generate room artwork descriptions and images
- iTunes, Google Books, The Movie Database, IGDB, Spotify, Open Library, Odesli — queried server-side when you search for media to add as a keepsake; only the search term is sent, not your personal information
- Vercel — hosts and serves the web application
- Mixpanel — product analytics; receives de-identified usage events (page views and in-app interactions). We do not send your email address or name.
Your published palace is publicly readable at your palace URL. Only content you have explicitly published is visible to others.
Data retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by emailing steve@happyplace.co. We will complete the deletion within 30 days of your request.
Security
We use row-level security on our database to ensure users can only access their own data. Files in cloud storage are protected so that only you can upload, replace, or delete your own files. No security measure is perfect, but we take reasonable precautions to protect your information.
Children's privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly.
Your rights
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information at any time by contacting us at steve@happyplace.co.
California residents (CCPA). If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect and how it is used, to request deletion of your personal information, and to opt out of the sale of your personal information. We do not sell personal information. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address above.
Third-party links
Your palace may contain links to third-party websites or services (for example, links to albums on Spotify or books on Amazon). We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those sites.
Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will post a notice on the Service or notify you by email before the changes take effect.
